Galleries and street art

Where to see art in Athens: the national collections, foundations, the private galleries that show living artists, and the neighbourhoods whose walls are a gallery of their own. Every entry has its official website or its source, an opening times link where one exists, and the date we read it.

How to use this page. 24 places in four groups. Shows change every few weeks and hours change by season, so check the official page before you go. Most hours below come from search engine copy of each official page and are labelled. We never show ratings; the Google Maps button opens them live.

Last updated 4 Oct 2026. Dates, times and prices change; the official link has the final word.

NEON

Cultural organisation, no permanent gallery · Current project at the Acropolis Museum, below the Acropolis

Address: No public venue of its own. Current Athens project: Acropolis Museum Outdoor Garden, west wing on the Mitseon Street side, 15 Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, Athens

Founded in 2013 by the collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos, NEON has no gallery of its own. It stages free contemporary art shows in public places and with partner institutions in Athens and around Greece, and funds artists through grants and scholarships.

Opening times: For the Lamassu installation NEON gives the Acropolis Museum hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 17:00, Friday 9:00 to 22:00, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 to 20:00; from April to October, Tuesday to Thursday 9:00 to 20:00 (NEON page, search engine copy, read 4 Oct 2026)

Admission: Free (NEON and Acropolis Museum pages, read 4 Oct 2026)

On now:

NEON says plainly on its home page that it does not restrict itself to one space, so there is no NEON address to list; the Maps link points to the Acropolis Museum, where the current project stands. The NEON page shows 06/10/2025 to 31/10/2026 at the top but also an exhibition duration line of 13 May to 31 October 2026; the Acropolis Museum page gives 6 Oct 2025 to 31 Oct 2026. Either way it is on view until 31 Oct 2026. NEON says the trilogy will end with a show at the Old Acropolis Museum; no dates were announced on the pages we read.

Sylvia Kouvali, Piraeus

Private gallery · Piraeus

Address: 41 Polidefkous Street, 185 45 Piraeus

International contemporary gallery with spaces in London and Piraeus. Its artists include Haris Epaminonda, Banu Cennetoğlu, James Richards and Christodoulos Panayiotou.

Opening times: Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 to 20:00, or by appointment (official site, read 4 Oct 2026)

On now:

In Piraeus, not central Athens; the Maps query uses Piraeus instead of Athens. The home page lists each show as venue and dates followed by title and artist; we read it that way and cross checked it against the site's own dated list of off site shows. This is Athens has a separate page for a Rodeo Gallery a short walk from Piraeus port; we did not confirm how the two relate, so do not merge them without checking. Admission not stated.
